Taming Your Anger

This was my first program—all others were built off it. It was the first need identified by both myself and the students. This program focuses on how anger impacts us and why we express it the way we do.

Working at Cider House, in their drug  treatment program, I worked with men from prison to home or jail, as they prepared to move back into society. The director of program and asked me to teach anger management to these men—they were in the program from 3 to 6 months. I took the most popular Anger Management program and applied what I had learned. I taught the program as I learned it. I did this for several months, I figured out that this program wasn’t helping them with their anger impulse. I decided it was up to me to develop a program that would help, based on the principles of behavioral psychology. I simplified the program and gave them practical tools. I called it the Taming Your Anger program and taught this for the next 5 years. I became certified by the NAMA and taught other therapists to teach the method. In 2006, I produced Remedy for Rage. This method is available through this web site, and a training manual is available.

Emotional Intelligence

This was the second program I built. This focuses on how our emotions impact us. All of our emotions, and how they impact us and our relationships.

In 2006, I received a grant from Mayor Richard Riordan to teach TYA to a group of continuation high school students. As part of that program I determined I needed to teach the fundamentals of anger as an emotion. As a result, I wrote and produced EQ 101. What I soon realized is that the teenager in all of us needs to grasp the impact of emotions. As part of that program, I produced Teenage Turnaround, a documentary about the success of the program. I taught this program with the assistance of Mr. Jerome Davis, the school principal, with out his assistance this would never have been accomplished.

Taming Your Anxiety

In 2019 I put together the Taming Your Anxiety app, which taught a simple method to deal with ongoing anxiety. It includes a definition of anxiety, what is belly breathing, Mindfulness, Mindlessness, and a 5 minute walking meditation. While the app is no longer available, you can download a pdf of the instructions on how to deal with your anxiety here.

Village Circle Project

During the 1970’s and early 1980’s, I began about a dozen leaderless groups. Each group consisted of 9 participants that were psychology oriented, spiritually centered for the purpose of self-awareness, feeling expression, conflict resolution and the formation of conscious community. They were interviewed and selected based on my evaluation of their ability to function without a group leader. I identified 5 levels of group process and taught the groups how to function at each of these levels.
